Build Quality and Design

The FX-Audio D2160 has a very robust brushed aluminium alloy chassis with a smooth glossy finish. Running down each side is a series of metal fins that act as a passive heat-sink to dissipate heat.

On the underside are 4 rubber feet that protect the surface the device is placed on and raise the unit allowing for increased airflow. I should mention that even after prolonged use the chassis stayed very cool.

On the front panel (from left to right) are: Power Button with LED indicator, Mute LED indicator, Input Select/Mute button with LED indicator, 6.35mm headphone jack, LCD display and the Digital Volume pot.

The rear panel contains (from left to right): Bluetooth antenna, USB input, Optical input, Coaxial input, RCA input, Speaker outputs and dual Power jacks (24V-36V).

Internals and Features

The FX-Audio D2160 is based on a TAS5614 amplification chip, allowing the unit to provide 2x65W at 8Ω or 2x125W at 4Ω with an SNR of -105dB and THD of 0.04%

A Maxim MAX9722 amplification chip is in charge of headphone amplification and can deliver 60mW at 32Ω. The headphone SNR is -93dB with a THD of 0.02%. For the USB input, there is a Cmedia CM6642 chip while the TOSLINK and coaxial utilize an AKM AK4118.

The FX-Audio D2160 offers bass and treble tone controls, as well as several EQ presets, loudness setting, plus low and high gain modes.

Another interesting feature is the dual DC inputs. You can use two power supply’s simultaneously, allowing for a more stable current and improved performance.

Bluetooth – Sit back and relax

One thing that makes the D2160 really exciting is its Bluetooth functionality. The  Qualcomm CSR 64215 provides Bluetooth 4.2 support so you can easily pair with a smartphone, tablet or DAP. I found this a great way to stream Spotify using aptX from my Android smartphone.

Remote Control

It would be kinda silly to have Bluetooth if you had to get up to change the volume or adjust the tone settings. Fortunately, the D2160 comes with a fully functional remote that covers all volume, tone, input and EQ controls.

Sound

Don’t let the modest price of the D2160 fool you. Once you start listening you’ll quickly realize that FX-Audio has some talented engineers on their payroll.

The D2160 is perfectly at home driving the ELAC Debut B6 bookshelf speakers. It takes full advantage of their powerful low end, bringing out their best while maintaining steady control. At the same time, it brings my old Sony SS-W280 speakers to life with a liveliness that I didn’t know they were capable of.

This FX-Audio FDA has an engaging and natural tonality. It provides a clear midrange and an open and airy treble that doesn’t show any signs of aggression. 

First of all, I’d recommend selecting the Source Direct option which will bypass the tone controls and give you the most natural, cleaner and transparent sound. While we’re at it, check to make sure that the EQ is set to Normal. Now you can get a proper idea of what the amplifier sounds like and you can choose to utilize the tone and/or EQ options later if desired.

Playing through Porcupine Tree’s ‘ “Trains”, the D2160 surprises with it’s dynamic and balanced presentation. It has a great sense of rhythm and drive and faithfully conveys the songs’ energy.

The D2160 can be subtle too. In songs like “J’ai Fait Une Promesse” from Anathema’s Falling Deeper album, the FX-Audio maintains self-assurance and control while faithfully reproducing all the small nuances in the track.

Bluetooth : Votre musique depuis votre canapé

Plus que cela, la puce intègre les technologies aptX et aptX Low-Latency, aptX-HD & LDAC, compatible avec les flux jusqu’à 24bit-94kHz.

Podsumowanie

Solidny i opłacalny DAC o wysoce neutralnym brzmieniu, dobrej scenie i uniwersalnym przeznaczeniu, a także jakości zapewnianej przez mojego ulubionego AK4490. Zagra z niemal każdą parą w zakresie przynajmniej zadowalającym, tak samo w zakresie napędzenia. Mimo zachowującego status quo charakteru, zgrabnie unika przesuszenia i jałowości, a o obecności tychże cech ostatecznie decydować będzie słuchacz i jego słuchawki. To na nich spoczywa tu ciężar uzyskania z DAC-X7 finalnego poziomu eufoniczności. Zwłaszcza współczynnik elementarnej jakości dźwięku do ceny wypada w tym urządzeniu wyjątkowo korzystnie.

DAC-X7 realizuje dźwięk na bardzo odpowiednim poziomie jakościowym, co samo w sobie przy sprzęcie neutralnym jest trudną sztuką i wiele sprzętów nie unika bylejakości lub bezbarwności.

Jak się okazuje, nawet recenzja nie jest w stanie pokazać absolutnie wszystkiego. O ile sam układ naturalnie nie jest pozbawiony wad i problemów, jego testy były u mnie szczęśliwsze niż u innych użytkowników. Do największych uwag zaliczają oni dziwne zachowanie się sygnału USB, który notorycznie odcina się przy braku detekcji płynącego przez DAC dźwięku i po wznowieniu odtwarzania następuje chwila przerwy. Do tego układ pracujący na dedykowanych mu sterownikach wydaje co jakiś czas sygnał dźwiękowy (beep), co wymusza stosowanie generycznych sterowników XMOS np. od Aune S6. Problemów nie ma natomiast po złączach S/PDIF, a więc tu już w pełni zgodnie z moją recenzją, aczkolwiek sumarycznie neguje to jednak możliwość nagrodzenia urządzenia Rekomendacją, jak to pierwotnie miało miejsce. Mimo, że nadal uważam X7 za bardzo fajną alternatywę dla STX/SC808, nawet jeśli odbywałaby się ona tylko po S/PDIF.

Opisywany sprzęt można nabyć na dzień pisania recenzji za ok. 700 zł.

You may request to return an item in the condition it was received if you change your mind. Zastosowania i możliwości

Jak już pisałem, słuchawki najlepiej sprawdzające się z DAC-X7 to modele neutralne i naturalne. Nie przesadnie jasne, ani też przesadnie ciemne, chyba że gust słuchacza preferuje takie granie. Gdy priorytetem jest wysoka opłacalność oraz chęć uzyskania jak najwierniejszego dźwięku bez koloryzacji, X7 definitywnie wskazuje na pierwsze miejsce na liście zakupowej w zakresie sprzętu do 1000 zł. Napędzi znakomitą większość sprzętu słuchawkowego i zaoferuje przy tym dużą głośność.

Takie modele jak K550, HD6XX, M220, ale też tańsze, jak HD330/660, RX700 czy HS-42M to dla niego pestka. Ale są to tylko przykłady. Równie dobrze powinien radzić sobie z modelami o umiarkowanym „V”, jak TH610, DT150 czy znów bardzo tanimi HP-580. Nie sądzę jednak, aby – o ile słuchawki same z siebie się podobają – nie móc sparować z nim np. K702 czy DT880 Edition, zwłaszcza wariantu 600 Ohm, który jest wydajniejszy od zastosowanych przeze mnie 600-ohmowców.

Opcji jest tu naprawdę wiele, ale pamiętać należy o jednym: w audio coś takiego jak „najlepsze” w formie obiektywnej nie istnieje i powtarzam to użytkownikom w sytuacji zadawania pytań „które słuchawki będą najlepsze”, „czy jak połączę to z tym to będę zadowolony”, „czy jak kupię DAC-X7 to poczuję różnicę” itd. Od 10 lat jak testuję sprzęt audio z różnych półek cenowych, nie jestem w stanie 100% akuratnie odpowiedzieć na takie pytania, ponieważ oznaczałoby to konieczność wejścia komuś w głowę, uszy, gust i ryzykownego zgadywania za w zasadzie cudze pieniądze. Oczywiście kwestia zaufania, która bardzo mnie cieszy i podbudowuje, niemniej świadomość i decyzja powinna zawsze leżeć w rękach użytkownika.

DAC-X7 jest takim urządzeniem, które za priorytet bierze równość i liniowość serwowanego dźwięku. Jeśli ktoś idzie zatem w maksymalną wierność, będzie to myślę bardzo dobry wybór. Nie uczynił moich K280 Parabolic czy K240 Monitor jasnymi i równymi słuchawkami, ale też nie sprawił że K240 DF czy K400 sypały nagle iskrami jak oszalałe. Nie jest to sprzęt korekcyjny w tym znaczeniu. Aczkolwiek dodatkowe możliwości płyną z wymiennego wzmacniacza operacyjnego.

Tu jednak niestety zastrzegę, że nie wykonywałem testów innych układów wzmacniających. Aby to zrobić, należałoby rozkręcić urządzenie praktycznie na części pierwsze. Choć z grubsza wiem jak grają OPA2604, mogę tylko podejrzewać, że pełnią tu rolę układu I/V, a właściwym wzmacniaczem słuchawkowym jest TPA6120A2. I to właśnie on zapewnia temu układowi tak profesjonalne, równe granie. Wymiana I/V będzie zatem prawdopodobnie dzielona przez warstwę abstrakcji tego konkretnego układu, toteż o ile ponownie – są ku jeszcze lepszemu brzmieniu widoki – nie umiem powiedzieć jakie i na jakich układach mogą nastąpić słyszalne, pozytywne zmiany.

Jak zawsze uczulam również, że wymiana układów OPA wykonywana jest na własną odpowiedzialność. Należy liczyć się z utratą gwarancji oraz potencjalnym ryzykiem uszkodzenia urządzenia bądź wzmacniacza operacyjnego, jeśli zaaplikowany zostanie niewłaściwy i nieprawidłowo. Wzmacniacze operacyjne nie pełnią roli equalizerów i choć zmieniają brzmienie oraz poprawiają jakość całkowitą, to głównie te ostatnie zmiany są z reguły słyszalne. Niestety bardzo wiele osób ma tendencję do przypisywania takim układom magicznych właściwości, uważając urządzenie w stanie fabrycznym za niemal niesłuchalne. Nie jest to prawda. Jednocześnie podczas wymiany wzmacniaczy w danym środowisku zachodzi wiele czynników i zmiennych, toteż jeden i ten sam układ może zagrać inaczej w zależności od tego w którym urządzeniu i w jakich warunkach prądowych będzie się znajdował. Dlatego takie testy wykonuje się w ogromnej ilości przypadków na własne uszy i pod własny sprzęt.

Jakość wykonania i konstrukcja

Sprzęt wykonany jest w miarę w porządku, zwłaszcza jak na tą cenę. Choć jego obudowa to typowe „chińskie” aluminium, jest to solidna puszka z nóżkami, szczelnie i pewnie okalająca jednopłytkową konstrukcję tego urządzenia. Wszystko wygląda tu w porządku, nie znalazłem żadnego uchybienia w zakresie konstrukcji tego urządzenia. Troszkę rzucają się w oczy za to niedokładności montażowe – a to tutaj coś niedokładnie spasowane, a to tu troszkę kleju widać, a to gniazdo USB też jakieś takie nie po prostemu. Jest to jednak typowa przypadłość sprzętu z Chin, zwłaszcza tańszego, ale widać w tym tendencję producenta do inwestowania znacznie więcej środków w odpowiednie układy i jakość dźwięku (o niej za moment) niż wygląd zewnętrzny. Dlatego też należy uważać z obudową, ponieważ czarne malowanie jest dosyć podatne na otarcia i zarysowania.

Na pokładzie mamy do dyspozycji znany i ceniony układ XMOS (XS1-L1/ST) oferujący maksymalne próbkowanie na poziomie 24/192 kHz. To ta sama jednostka, jaką znajdziemy np. w kilkukrotnie droższej Aune S6. Topologia opiera się natomiast na prostej relacji między Burr Brownem OPA2604AP ze wzmacniaczem Texas Instruments TPA6120A2, również bardzo znanym z wielu innych urządzeń, w tym Xonarów Essence czy Iconów HDP.

Sercem X7 jest natomiast AKM AK4490 i to tak naprawdę ten element nadaje ostatecznej jakości brzmieniowej temu urządzeniu. Całości dopełnia Cirrus Logic CS8422 jako asynchroniczny układ konwersji próbkowania.

DAC-X7 oferuje pełen wachlarz wejść, jakich moglibyśmy oczekiwać po sprzęcie z tej klasy cenowej. Mamy tu dwa wejścia USB – duże i micro, optyczne, koaksjalne, a także klasyczny AUX oparty o jack 3,5 mm. W zakresie wyjść mamy do dyspozycji – prócz oczywiście wyjść słuchawkowych – parę typowych RCA (funkcja PRE z regulowaną głośnością i jack-sensingiem). DAC-X7 nie może więc pełnić roli np. nadajnika cyfrowego, ale też nie taka jest jego rola i zastosowanie. To sprzęt zorientowany głównie na słuchawki, tudzież po prostu klasyczne zastosowania jako układ C/A i tyle.

To, za co od samego początku polubiłem FX-Audio, to możliwość bezproblemowej pracy po złączu optycznym jako DAC S/PDIF. Co to oznacza? Wybawienie od wszelkich śmieci, przebić i zakłóceń płynących do urządzenia za pośrednictwem komputera. Kabel optyczny nie jest bowiem przewodnikiem sygnału elektrycznego, tym samym istnieje ogromne prawdopodobieństwo, graniczące wręcz z pewnością, że osoby często narzekające na przebicia słyszane w układach dźwiękowych, nawet zabezpieczonych osłonami przeciwko EMI, wreszcie będą mogły cieszyć się czystym dźwiękiem i prawdziwą ciszą zamiast pisków i skwierczenia odpowiadającego ruchom myszki czy stanem pracy np. karty sieciowej.

Jest to też ten punkt programu, na który FX-Audio stawiał od samego początku, nawet bardziej niż na USB. Testowany jakiś czas temu DAC-X3 w cenie 200 zł dosłownie rozniósł konkurencyjne układy pod tym względem i zaskarbił sobie moje uznanie. Od tamtej pory polecam go jako bardzo tani DAC dla osób mających czułe słuchawki i duży problem z przebiciami.

Trudno się trochę temu dziwić. Tak naprawdę w tradycyjnych DACach od wielu lat to właśnie interfejs S/PDIF, zwłaszcza koaksjalny, królował jako główne wejście sygnału. USB pojawiło się dopiero później, jako odpowiedź na rosnącą popularność takiego gniazda i jednocześnie kolejny obszar popularyzacji samych urządzeń. Dobrej jakości dźwięk przestał być już domeną tylko i wyłącznie kart dźwiękowych, a stał się opcją bardziej wszechstronną. Tak samo jest i tutaj. Z tą różnicą, że względem X3 USB przestało być już traktowane po macoszemu.

Obsługa urządzenia jest banalnie prosta. Przytrzymując przycisk na froncie obudowy włączamy i wyłączamy sprzęt. Naciskając po włączeniu jeden raz ten sam przycisk wybieramy sygnał źródłowy. Wszystko wyświetlane jest na miniaturowym, ale czytelnym wyświetlaczu. Głośność regulowana jest cyfrowo za pomocą dużego u wygodnego pokrętła skokowego o wyraźnie większej precyzji niż te znane z DAC-X3. Dużym plusem jest zapamiętywanie głośności, zarówno po wyłączeniu miękkim, jak i kompletnym odłączeniu urządzenia od zasilania. W trybie USB należy jedynie uwzględnić, że wyłączenie urządzenia powoduje pełne odcięcie zasilania od nadajnika XMOS, przez co znika on z systemu.

TAS5614 & Quality amplifier chip components

The FX-Audio D2160 amplification chip is TAS514. This allows to provide 2x65W at 8О or 2x125W at 4О. The TAS5614 is support by a STM32 microcontroller (MCU).It can provides clear and definite sound, while offering deep bass. And providing an SNR of -105dB, a THD of 0.04% and a frequency response of 20Hz — 20kHz.

Also included in this amplifier is a CM6642 USB chip, an ADC TI PCM1808 for the analog input, a Maxim MAX9722 amplification chip for the headphone output, and AKM AK4118 Toslink coaxial / optical receiver.

The Bluetooth chip CSR 64215 support A2DP protocol ensures higher transmission speed and greater stability for better quality audio reproduction. Furthermore, the chip integrates the technologies aptX and aptX Low-Latency, allowing to reach a sound quality close to that of the CD.

An antenna supplied with the camera is attached to the rear panel to extend the transmission distance.

Effective audio features

FX-AUDIO D2160 amplifier offers simple but very effective audio features. With its DSP TAS5548 , the device proposes to modify the bass and treble curve. A «HiFi» mode is also present, corresponding to a Direct Audio mode to bypass the DSP and enjoy a perfect respect of the original signal.

The D2160 offers a complete connection that will allow you to connect your system without worry. We thus find in input a Toslink Optics, a Coaxial, a USB-B and a Stereo RCA. An outlet can also connect the antenna to enjoy a greater transmission distance.

Double power supply

The D2160 can use up to two power supply simultaneously, such configuration can improve its performance even further thanks to a gain in power and stability. When two power supply are used, the RMS power can reach 160 Watts @ 4Ohms. Please note that the second power supply must imperatively be the same (36V 6A).

Remote control

It would be a shame to be able to stream your music directly from your couch but having to get up to change the source or adjust the volume, right? FX-Audio has thought and provided with the amp an IR remote control. This will allow you to access all the features of your device, namely control of volume and sources, adjusting the bass and treble or switching to «Hifi» or «Mute» mode.

A simple and strong design

The FX-Audio D2160 offers a simple design that allows it to integrate seamlessly into the vast majority of audio systems, while unveiling a stronger side with the integration on its sides of two heatsinks . Heatsinks that are also not irrelevant since they allow the amplifier to effectively evacuate the heat released.

With a 100% brushed aluminum housing, the amplifier promises to be robust and will perfectly protect the internal components of the dust.

How long is the warranty period?

HiFiGo warrants to the original purchaser that the Product(s) shall be free of any defect in material or workmanship for a period of one year for labor and one year for parts from the date of the original invoice.

Should the Product(s) supplied by HiFiGo prove defective because of improper workmanship or material as reasonably determined by us, HiFiGo agrees, at its option, to either repair or replace the Product free of charge, excluding any shipping or handling charges. 

This warranty extends only to personal use & does not extend to any product that has been used for commercial use, rental use, or use which is not intended. There are no warranties other than expressly set forth herein.

Le D2160 propose une connectique complète qui vous permettra de brancher votre système sans souci. On y retrouve donc en entrée une un Optique Toslink, un Coaxial, un USB-B et un RCA Stéréo. Une prise permet également de brancher l’antenne pour profiter d’une distance de transmission plus importante. On notera par ailleurs la présence de deux prises Jack DC, permettant de fournir à l’amplificateur un courant plus stable.

En sortie, rien de plus simple puisque on retrouve d’un côté des connecteurs acceptant les fiches bananes pour brancher vos enceintes, de l’autre un connecteur Jack 6.35mm pour brancher un casque.

On notera la présence de deux prises Jack DC, permettant de fournir à l’amplificateur un courant plus stable et de monter en puissance. Cette configuration en bi-alimentation va augmenter significativement les performances de l’appareil. Dans cette configuration, la puissance RMS peut atteindre les 160W @ 4Ohms. Il convient naturellement d’utiliser deux fois la même alimentation (36V 6A).

Bluetooth : Enjoy music easily and ubiquitously

Equipped with a Bluetooth 4.2 CSR 64215 chip especially designed for audio, the FX-Audio D2160 will allow you to enjoy your music directly from your sofa,bedroom,living ect. A simple pairing of your reading device (smartphone, tablet …) to your amplifier and the music starts.

The Bluetooth chip CSR 64215 support A2DP protocol ensures higher transmission speed and greater stability for better quality audio reproduction. Furthermore, the chip integrates the technologies aptX and aptX Low-Latency, allowing to reach a sound quality close to that of the CD.

An antenna supplied with the camera is attached to the rear panel to extend the transmission distance.
