Shoe Sizing Tips

  • In general, the standard width for shoes are «D» for men, and «B» for women.
  • If the majority of shoes you buy fit fine, then these are the widths you should select.
  • If the shoes you own tend to be wide or feel spacious in width, then you should consider selecting a narrower width. If the shoes you own tend to be narrow or feel snug in width, then you should consider selecting a wider width.
  • If you seem to be «between» sizes and can’t decide which size to select, we suggest you go with the larger size. You can make adjustments for a better fit with socks, insoles or a different lacing pattern.
  • With respect to feel… your heel should fit snuggly with no slipping; the midfoot of the shoe under your arch and over the top of your foot should be snug but not tight; you should have enough room in your toe box to wiggle your toes.
  • Feet always swell during the day, we encourage you to try shoes on later in the day when your feet are at their largest.
  • People are more than twice as likely to buy a shoe that is too small than too big. Clues that your shoes are too small or narrow… your feet cramp while running or just after running; your feet fall asleep while running; you get blisters and calluses between or on your toes.
  • New Balance shoes are made to fit directly out of the box (they do not need to be broken in).
  • Feet typically get bigger with age. We encourage you to have your feet measured every year.
  • Many times women’s feet become a half-size (or more) larger after pregnancy.
  • Your left and right feet may differ in size by as much as a full size. Always measure and try shoes on both feet and buy shoes to fit your larger foot.
  • Unisex styles are men’s sizes. Women’s sizes are all estimates.

Browsing for your size and width…If your size is not listed in the order information for a specific style, then your size is out of stock for that style. You can choose to browse only the shoes or apparel in your size by selecting your desired size on the category page you are interested. You can also narrow down your selection by width.

Determining what sizes are available…
If your size is not in the drop-down menu, that size is out of stock for that particular item. This applies for both shoe and apparel items.

Committed to American Workers

We made our first pair of running shoes in 1938, and hold the distinction as the only major company that still manufactures athletic shoes in the U.S. As a company, we are proud to invest in American workers who provide some of the greatest working spirit, commitment to advancement and ingenuity known in the industrial world. For us, Committed to American Workers is more than a slogan or viewpoint — it is the heart and «sole» of our company.

New Balance has proven that high quality athletic footwear can be produced competitively in America. We are proud of our heritage of domestic manufacturing and our strong commitment to American workers.

Many New Balance shoes are produced by our U.S. workforce using U.S. and imported materials. When possible, we obtain materials from domestic suppliers. At times, due to availability, economic or quality reasons, there is a need to import components from foreign sources. Where the domestic value is at least 70%, we have labeled the shoe «Made in USA.» Where it falls below 70%, we have qualified the label referencing domestic and imported materials.
