Для прослушивания использовалось следующее оборудование.

• AKG K702 и Fostex T50RP как наушники для сравнения

Для начала очень интересная особенность. Красивый и удобный кабель в мягкой оплетке, которым комплектуются X1, как оказалось имеет достаточно заметное (по меркам кабеля) сопротивление примерно в 1.9 Ω по каждой линии, что раза в три больше, чем у большинства кабелей для наушников. Во многих случаях это приводит к тому, что наушники теряют часть упругости на НЧ (что особенно обидно для наушников с акцентом на бас), а иногда это может привести к возникновению перекрестных помех. К счастью, кабель X1 — сменный, он подключается обычным 3,5-мм штекером в районе левого «уха», таким образом вы можете найти на eBay (или в ближайшем магазине электроники) массу вариантов замены. Я пошел дальше и заказал в Era-in-ear изготовление кабеля под заказ, что в общем-то дало эффект: звучание стало чище, а ВЧ — более артикулированными.

В целом, наушники имеют уклон в бас, звучание теплое. НЧ хорошо проработаны, обладают приятной текстурой и динамикой. Их скорости хватает для большинства жанров, даже самых брутальных и скоростных. Количества баса будет достаточно для всех, кроме законченных «басхедов».

Верхние частоты очень тонко выверены. Разработчики наушников, прорабатывая ВЧ, часто ходят по тонкой грани. Если «верхов» много — звучание будет ярким и агрессивным, долго слушать такие наушники будет неприятно. Если ВЧ «придавить» — в композиции пропадет весь воздух и легкость звучания. К счастью, как Ник Валленда, пересекший по канату Ниагарский водопад, звукоинженеры Philips сумели найти ту золотую середину, что обеспечивает расслабленное, но воздушное звучание.

Условная сцена — средних размеров, Fidelio не пытаются ее раздвинуть или сделать шире, чем она есть. Инструменты хорошо разделены и обладают телесностью.

Качество звука

Практически сразу после начала прослушивания стало ясно, что звучание в Fidelio L2 просто феноменальное. Во многом, я бы сказал, – просто эталонное, намного чище, чем в HD650 / K701 / DT880 / RS1 или иные подобных наушниках. Звук очень чистый, без посторонних шумов и помех.

Почти такие же чувства и эмоции возникли и при прослушивании современной электронной музыки с жирными и мощными басами. Даже без дополнительного усиления звук оказался настолько мощным, что порой казалось, что не выдержат барабанные перепонки. Но при этом, если подключить EQ и качественный усилитель, то помимо мощности и громкости заметно улучшается и глубина низких частот воспроизводимого трека. Одним словом низкие частоты очень порадовали.

Впрочем, я больше ценю средние и высокие тональности в музыке. Fidelio L2 наглядно показали, что и в этом диапазоне нет ограничений. По моим ощущениям, звуковой ряд был ровный, без провалов и «сваливаний» — все было практически гладко и без помарок. Не хочу сравнивать, но по моим ощущениям, Fidelio L2 – лучшие в своем классе, при этом они более мощные, чем Sony MDR-1R.

Отдельная песня — высокие частоты! Я обожаю сольные гитарные партии рок-композиций. Не многие наушники в полной мере способны донести до слушателя их звучание, которое слышно на концерте или во время прослушивания на дорогой стереосистеме, а вот Fidelio L2 с легкостью справились с этой задачей. Добавьте сюда соло на барабанах и тембр голоса исполнителя и, причем, это все чисто, четко и без сливаний, и тогда станет ясно, что Fidelio L2 — отличные наушники для охвата всего звукового диапазона. Я бы слушал снова и снова эти звучные гитарные соло, если бы мои уши не воспротивились.

Конечно, многое зависит от качества самой записи, но к слову сказать, Fidelio L2 — не такие требовательные, как HD800 или HD700 от Sennheiser, но все же для них тоже важен сам источник звука. Можно, конечно, использовать рядовой MP3 плеер, но если вы подключите наушники к iPod или другому качественному плееру, то сможете насладиться, пожалуй, на 100% идеальным звуком.

Современная музыка не так насыщена звуковыми оттенками, как джазовые или инструментальные композиции, которые я люблю слушать, но именно в Fidelio L2 я ощутил, насколько они проникновенны и прекрасны. Кто-то подумает – ну начал петь дифирамбы, а я отвечу – это всего лишь маленькая толика восхищения и удовлетворения, которую я должен был высказать от Fidelio L2.

Дизайн и эргономика

Начнем с цветовой гаммы. Нет больше того вычурного цвета, который бросался в глаза. Сейчас цвет подобран в классической цветовой гамме, и если бы не игривая строчка на оголовье, то Fidelio L2 можно было бы спутать с Sennheiser HD700.

Конечно, не только за внешний вид покупают наушники. Немаловажен комфорт в эксплуатации. Я бы сравнил Fidelio L2 с Sony MDR-1R, причем даже в таком сравнении я все же готов отдать пальму первенства именно Fidelio L2. Они более легкие, их амбушюры не давят уши, нет ощущения перегретости и усталости от дискомфорта. А оголовье Fidelio L2 лежит ровно и не передавливает голову. И если быть окончательно объективным, я бы сравнил Fidelio L2 по комфорту с легендарными Sennheiser HD650, что уж мелочиться – сравниваться нужно с лучшими.

Не знаю, как другим, а мне Philips Fidelio L2 с первого взгляда не приглянулись. Пусть они легкие — 347 грамм, но в них было что-то, что меня напрягало. И пусть у Fidelio L2 нет сменных амбушюров, впрочем как и у остальных наушников от компании Philips, но все куда-то ушло, когда я водрузил Fidelio L2 себе на голову. Меня уже более не заботил внешний вид – поразило качество звука.

Я слушал их четыре часа кряду и только после того, как понял, что у меня достаточно сильно побаливает макушка от пережатости оголовьем – снял Fidelio L2. И еще один момент я отметил про себя – хорошо, что мои уши небольшие, а то было бы катастрофически неудобно в маленьких амбушюрах L2. Но честное слово, эти мелочи похожи на придирки, а не на серьезную критику. Fidelio L2 и по моим ощущениям довольно комфортны как для кратковременного ношения, так и для более длительного прослушивания музыки в наушниках.

Добавьте сюда еще коллекцию аксессуаров, которые Philips разработаал специально для модели Fidelio L2, и вы ощутите, что уже не в силах сопротивляться желанию приобрести именно эту модель, а не ту, что подороже и классом повыше. Fidelio L2 представляют из себя открытую модель с 40-мм чашкой наушников. У них съемный кабель и просто феноменальный звук!

Introduction

I have the Sennheiser HD 600’s, and the 650’s are very similar except for a few things: The bass thumps a bit harder on the 650, and they sound warmer overall. The 600’s are snappier and more crisp sounding. The 650’s have actually been accused of lulling you to sleep! This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but just something to keep in mind.

I absolutely love Sennheiser products, and would rank them at or very near the top of Hi-Fi audio. There simply isn’t a company that consistently puts out as many quality headphones. While others may have clunkers from time to time, it seems as though the folks at Sennheiser have a hard time releasing crap. Even their entry level HD202’s are pretty decent!

As far as the Fidelio X2’s are concerned, The unexpectedly great bass response coming out of these open backed cans is a treat. Closed back vs. Open back headphones. Normally open backed headphones leak a bit of sound and the bass response is a little lean and light. The X2’s go against the grain for sure.

The Philips Fidelio X2HR aren’t good headphones for mixed usage. They’re great if you’re looking for an accurate and natural listening experience, thanks to their well-balanced sound profile and wide, open soundstage. Unfortunately, since they’re open-back headphones, they aren’t the best choice for commuting or using in the office as they don’t block any background noise and leak a lot of audio. They also aren’t stable enough for sports and don’t have a microphone for gaming or phone calls.

The Philips Fidelio X2HR are great headphones for neutral sound listening. Their sound profile is very well-balanced, though some may find they sound a bit dull with some frequencies and piercing with others. They also lack a bit of low-bass, though this is common with open-back headphones. Their weighted harmonic distortion is very good, and even critical listeners shouldn’t notice much distortion. Thanks to their open-back design, their soundstage is quite open and natural, and they’re very consistent between various users or reseats.

Differences

• Weight. The X2’s are much heavier than the 650’s. The 650 tends to “disappear” on your head and is great for long listening sessions.
• Headband. The 650’s go for a traditional locking mechanism, while the X2’s have that hammock self adjustment band. I find the latter to be more convenient.
• Ear-cup material. The X2’s pads are made of memory foam while the 650’s are velour.
• Cable. The X2’s have a single sided cable coming out of only one ear-cup, while the 650’s have dual cables coming from both ears. The 650’s are also proprietary, so you will only be able to replace them with the Sennheiser brand.
• Clamp force. The 650’s have a lot more clamping pressure than the X2. I don’t find it to be problematic, but you will definitely feel the headphones upon first usage. They do kind of open up over time. So in essence, the 650’s do end up being more comfortable over time.
• Isolation. Though both are Open backed, the X2’s have a surprising amount of isolation, while the 650’s do not.
• Soundstage. The X2’s is very wide, but doesn’t have a lot of depth. This renders it a bit flat at times. The 650’s Soundstage is not as wide, but has nice depth. This makes it phenomenal as far as precision, clarity, and detail in the music. What is Soundstage? The 650’s are more forward, which gives the music and instruments life. This is one of the defining characteristics of the 600 and 650.
• Sound Signature. While a tad dark/veiled, the 650 has a very even frequency response. While the X2’s sound and transients may become glossed over at times, and not quite distinguishable at times, the 650 is more resolving in that it reveals more detail. What is the Sennheiser Veil? The detail in the X2 is simply masked at times.
• Impedance/Amp requirements. What is Headphone Impedance? The HD650 by all accounts needs an amp to power effectively, but it isn’t picky about which one you go with. By contrast, some people say the X2 needs an amp, others claim you will be fine without one. How to choose a headphone amp!
• Treble. The X2’s treble has been accused of being a bit to harsh/sibilant. What does sibilant mean? Stuff like bells and chimes become a little blurred, unclear, and overall it’s just a little too much. The issue becomes most bothersome with various types of vocals. The 650’s by contrast have a more detail and clarity, though there’s less treble overall. The 650 is simply more natural sounding.
• Mid-range. The X2’s bass does not bleed into the mid-range, rendering it very good though the upper mids and low treble are a bit uneven with regard to female vocals. The 650’s midrange is clearer, more forward and natural sounding by contrast.
• Bass. The bass on the X2 as mentioned in the open has a lot of impact for an open backed headphone. The 650 doesn’t go as deep, but ends up being tighter and better defined. The X2 has more sub-bass while the 650 has more mid and upper bass.
• Overall: The X2 provides a fun listen. You’re not going to be obsessing over small details with this one. The 650 provides detail in spades, but still remains pretty warm and smooth. If I were to compare the three headphones I’ve mentioned in this article from Warmest to most analytical: X2 > HD650 > HD600.

Final Word

The HD650 is a better headphone overall, but I’m not sure I would recommend it today. I’ve read a lot about The 600 and 650, and while lot of people loved the 650 at first, over time they reverted back to the 600 because it has a crisper, snappier sound. The 650’s are almost a little too warm (as mentioned earlier), and the bass has a tendency to be a bit thick and clammy.

I have the HD600 and can attest to their greatness. In my mind they are the benchmark and reference point for audiophile headphones, to which everything should be compared.
